Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 September 2026

Easy Cookie is a recipe site, not a data business. You can read every page here without giving us anything. This policy sets out the little we do receive, why, and how to get rid of it.

Who we are

This policy applies to easycookie.net. Easy Cookie is an independently run baking recipe website, and is the party responsible for the personal data described here — the “data controller”, in the language of the GDPR. You can reach us about anything on this page at contact@easycookie.net.

What we collect

There is no account to create on this site, no newsletter to join and no shop. We collect personal data in only three situations.

If you leave a comment

Comments are open on recipe pages. When you post one, we store the name and email address you type into the form, the comment itself, and — because WordPress records these automatically to help catch spam — your IP address and browser user agent string. Your name and comment are published publicly. Your email address and IP address are never published. Please do not put anything private into a comment; use email instead.

If you email us

We receive your email address and whatever you write, and we use them to reply to you. That is all. You are not added to a mailing list, and your address is never sold, rented or shared for marketing.

Automatically, when any page loads

Like effectively every website, our web host records standard server log data for each request: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and browser and device information. These logs exist to keep the site running, diagnose faults and defend against attacks and abuse.

If you upload an image to a website, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included — visitors to a website can download and extract any location data from images on it.

Cookies and similar technologies

  • Comment cookies. If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name and email address in cookies so you do not have to retype them next time. These are entirely your choice and last about a year. Decline them and nothing breaks.
  • Caching and performance. Our site uses caching software to serve pages quickly. It may set a technical cookie or store a local marker to decide which version of a page to serve you. This is essential to the site working and is not used to track you.
  • Analytics cookies. We use Google Analytics 4 to see which recipes people read and how they found us. It stores an identifier for your browser and records the pages you view, the approximate region your visit came from, and basic device information. It does not tell us who you are.
  • Advertising cookies. Third-party advertising networks may set their own cookies or read device identifiers in order to serve and measure adverts, and to limit how often you see the same one. We do not control these cookies and cannot read them. See the section below.
  • Embedded content. Articles may include embedded content from other websites, such as videos. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited that other website, which may collect data about you, use cookies and monitor your interaction with it.

Your browser lets you block or delete cookies, and most let you refuse third-party cookies specifically. Blocking essential cookies may affect how the site behaves; blocking advertising cookies will not.

Third parties who receive data

We keep this list short on purpose. As things stand, these are the parties that may receive data when you use this site.

  • Our web host. Stores the site, its database and its server logs on our behalf.
  • Google Fonts. The typefaces used for this site’s text are requested from Google’s font servers when a page loads, which means Google receives your IP address as part of that request. If you would rather that did not happen, a browser extension that blocks third-party font requests will prevent it; the site remains perfectly readable.
  • Google Analytics. Visitor measurement is provided by Google Analytics 4, which runs on this site through the Google Site Kit plugin. Google receives your IP address, device and browser details, and the pages you view here, and processes that data on our behalf. Google truncates IP addresses before storing them. You can opt out of Google Analytics on every site you visit using Google’s official browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
  • Gravatar. Comment avatars are supplied by Gravatar, an Automattic service. When your comment is displayed, an irreversibly hashed version of the email address you gave is sent to Gravatar so it can return an avatar image if you have one. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy.
  • Advertising networks. This site is supported by advertising, and adverts are served by third-party networks. Those networks may collect your IP address, device and browser information, the pages you view here, and advertising identifiers, in order to select and measure adverts — including personalised adverts based on your activity across different sites. Each network is responsible for its own use of that data under its own privacy policy.
  • Affiliate networks. Some outbound links to retailers are affiliate links. If you click one, the retailer or its affiliate network typically sets a cookie recording that the visit came from us, so that any resulting commission is attributed correctly. We receive only aggregate reports — clicks and commissions — and never learn your name, your address or what else you bought.

We do not sell your personal data, and we never will. We may disclose data if we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to establish or defend legal claims or to protect the site from abuse.

You can limit personalised advertising at the source. Google’s ad settings at myadcenter.google.com control personalisation across Google’s networks, and the industry opt-out pages at youronlinechoices.eu and optout.aboutads.info cover many other networks at once.

Why we use it, and our legal basis

If the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Legitimate interests — to publish and operate the site, moderate comments, keep the site secure, prevent spam and abuse, and understand in aggregate how it is performing.
  • Consent — for non-essential cookies, including advertising cookies, and for saving your details in comment cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time through your browser settings or the opt-out links above.
  • Legal obligation — where we have to retain or disclose something to comply with the law.

We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling that has any legal effect on you.

How long we keep it

  • Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so that follow-up replies can be recognised and the conversation stays readable — unless you ask us to remove them.
  • Emails are kept only as long as needed to deal with what you wrote about, and then deleted.
  • Server logs are held for a short period, typically a few weeks, in line with our host’s retention settings, and then overwritten.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you and receive a copy of it, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to restrict or object to our use of it, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent where we relied on it.

To exercise any of these, email contact@easycookie.net. If your request concerns a comment, telling us roughly which recipe and when you posted helps us find it. We will respond within one month. Requests are free, and we will not treat you any differently for making one.

If you are in the EEA or the UK and you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to your national data protection supervisory authority. You are also free to contact us first, and we would prefer the chance to put it right.

If you are in California

Under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA, you have the right to know what personal information is collected about you and how it is used, to request its deletion or correction, to opt out of its “sale” or “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising, and not to be discriminated against for exercising any of those rights.

We do not sell personal information for money. However, the use of third-party advertising cookies on this site may count as “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising under California law. To opt out, use the advertising opt-out links in the third parties section above, block third-party cookies in your browser, or enable Global Privacy Control (see below). You may also email us and we will help. We do not knowingly collect the personal information of anyone under 16, and so do not sell or share it.

International transfers

This is a website, so it is read internationally, and some of the service providers listed above operate outside your own country — including in the United States. Where data is transferred out of the EEA or the UK, those providers rely on recognised safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision covering their certification.

Children

Baking with children is a lovely thing, and children are welcome to read these recipes. But this site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us personal data — in a comment, for example — email us and we will delete it promptly.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, so traffic between your browser and our server is encrypted. We keep WordPress, its plugins and its theme updated, and restrict who can log in. No website can promise perfect security, but we hold very little about you in the first place, which is the best protection there is.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

We do not track you across other websites ourselves, so there is nothing for a Do Not Track header to switch off on our side. Where your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a valid opt-out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information. Third-party advertising networks respond to these signals according to their own policies, which we do not control.

Changes to this policy

If what we do with data changes — a new analytics tool, a contact form, a newsletter — this page gets updated before or when that change goes live, and the date at the top will tell you when. Material changes will be flagged on the site itself.
